Steven Leake: A Libertarian Bard Echoing the Margins of American Freedom

Profile: The Man Behind the Music and Manifesto

Steven Leake, born in 1986 in Charlotte, North Carolina, to public school teachers, spent his formative years on a family farm in York, South Carolina, a setting that instilled in him a deep connection to Southern roots and self-reliance.    An accomplished high school athlete, he was named all-region pitcher and defensive MVP in 2004, graduating with honors. Appointed to the United States Military Academy at West Point as part of the first post-9/11 class, Leake withdrew due to illness, later pursuing creative writing at Winthrop University in 2007, where he became a semi-finalist for the PEN Emerging Voices Fellowship.  Relocating to Charleston, South Carolina, his experiences among friends in the food and beverage industry inspired his first novel, Gethsemane

Leake’s life took a pivotal turn in the mid-2010s when he met Wren Calloway in Charleston, forming a profound romantic, creative, and business partnership centered on liberty, creativity, and self-sufficiency.   Proximity to the 2015 Emanuel AME Church shooting profoundly influenced his worldview, sharpening his insights into race, violence, and societal fractures, which permeate his works like the novels Naked Shadowboxing and Unplugged.   Recognized by the Southern Poverty Law Center in 2017 for advocating tolerance, Leake has published poetry in outlets like the North Carolina Bards Anthology (Truth in 2022 and Soft Days in 2023), Beatnik Cowboy, and The Black Book Press.

As a libertarian activist and strategist, Leake leads Americans for Economic Independence, a political action committee supporting freedom-minded candidates in South Carolina, and directs the LibertySkills Alliance for community skill-sharing.   He manages Monarch UrbanWear Ltd., a fashion brand targeting “based and alt-right” audiences with merchandise like “Love Kills” and “Do Not Comply” t-shirts, aiming to empower local communities through job creation.    Under Monarch Literary Ltd., he maintains creative control to produce unfiltered narratives, including upcoming releases like a poetry collection and the manifesto The Operators Manual and the Liberation Protocols, blending philosophy, spirituality, and tactical wisdom.  Technologically inclined, he developed MySecureShare, an encrypted messaging app for privacy, and leads American Justice Enterprises Ltd. in class-action lawsuits for veterans’ rights against illegal foreclosures on VA home loans.   His podcast, Musings of a Cigarette Smoking Man, produced under Smoking Man Ventures Ltd. and Monarch Media Ventures Ltd., explores economic impacts and spiritual themes.  Leake engages audiences on platforms like Facebook, Instagram, X, TikTok, and YouTube, sharing poetry, blogs, and liberty concepts such as the Non-Aggression Principle.

Personality-wise, Leake is a visionary “Southern storm”—tender yet fierce, introverted yet collaborative, with a punk-libertarian ethos.     He embodies resilience, drawing from faith, heritage, and a rejection of modern alienation, often positioning himself as an “OG crypto punk” in his online presence.

Artistic and Musical Influence and Aesthetic

Leake’s artistry is a raw fusion of DIY folk and folk-rock, deeply rooted in Southern spirituality, libertarian philosophy, and protest traditions.     Described as “bare-bones acoustic, direct and honest,” his music serves as a platform for reflection, cultural preservation, and rebellion against tyranny.   Influences include Southern heritage, Jesus, the Constitution, and liberty, evoking a “warrior poet” archetype akin to knights and cowboys.     His aesthetic is unpolished and authentic—think pink Converse in Carolina clay—blending acoustic intimacy with electric edge in demos recorded at Sovereign Sound Studio.

His debut double album, Truth Is Power, a live-to-tape acoustic demo available on Spotify, features tracks like “Spring,” “Molly (Demo),” “In Memory of Amanda,” and “Stand Your Ground (Do Not Comply),” exploring themes of truth, redemption, resilience, and non-compliance.      Upcoming projects include a paperback poetry collection and the double vinyl Truth Is Power/Love Kills, merging folk-rock with alternative electric guitar, slated for Christmas 2025.  Singles like “RX Queen” and “One Fine Day” further showcase his lyrical prowess, often shared via porch jams on YouTube and TikTok.       This aesthetic resists modern alienation, championing individual sovereignty and spiritual awakening in a style that’s both introspective and defiant.

Leake’s influence extends to poetry writing courses he offers, drawing from two decades of experience as a published writer.  His work echoes the margins, appealing to crypto punks, liberty lovers, and those disillusioned with mainstream narratives, fostering a subculture of raw expression.

Contributions to the Margins of American Culture

Operating on the fringes, Leake’s contributions weave art, activism, and enterprise into a “liberation movement disguised as art.”  Through Monarch Holdings’ ventures—like Monarch Listening Lounge for curated music, and even the adult entertainment platform Love Junkies Inc.—he breaks taboos, funding community initiatives with themes of consensual empowerment.   His advocacy for drug rights in essays like “The Sovereign Body: A Libertarian Defense of Drug Rights” and promotion of tools like the Deadmanswitch app underscore a commitment to privacy and autonomy.

Leake challenges societal norms, particularly in the South, by blending punk aesthetics with libertarian strategy, creating spaces for unfiltered voices in literature, music, and tech.     His work preserves cultural heritage while pushing against alienation, influencing niche communities of folk-rock enthusiasts, crypto advocates, and liberty seekers.    By building a “digital command center” for operations and engaging in legal battles for justice, Leake carves out a legacy on America’s cultural edges, where art meets activism in defiant pursuit of freedom.

Steven Leake is a singer-songwriter rooted in the tradition of American folk music with a voice that echoes rebellion, authenticity, and raw heart. Raised in the Carolinas, Steven blends storytelling with stripped-down acoustic instrumentation to create music that’s both timely and timeless.

I’m a folk singer, a songwriter, a Southern storyteller

I don’t dress it up, and I don’t play with backing tracks. Just my voice, my guitar, and the road under my feet. I believe songs ought to mean something—about the land, about your rights, about love, loss, liberty, and God.

I’ve played bar corners, studio floors, and front porches. I write songs for the misfits, the patriots, the poets, and the people who feel like the world’s lost its damn mind.

If that’s you, welcome home.

I’m Steven Leake — a singer-songwriter, truth-teller, and DIY indie rocker with my pink Converse in the clay of Carolina and my heart set on revival.

My music isn’t manufactured in a boardroom or filtered through some corporate formula. It’s raw, emotionally stripped down, and rooted in something real: Jesus, the Constitution, and the kind of American soul that refuses to be bought, sold, or silenced.

Im not here to entertain the empire. I’m here to remind people what freedom sounds like.

Whether I’m playing to a room of ten or a field of thousands, the mission never changes — tell the truth, stir the spirit, and fight for decency, justice, and common sense in a world gone mad. I sing about liberty, loss, love, and redemption, because I still believe in the power of a song to shake the rafters and wake the people up.

My roots are in traditional enlightenment values — individual liberty, personal responsibility, natural rights, and the sacred spark of reason and faith. I carry that into every verse, every chord, every show. This isn’t performance. This is resistance through melody.

If you’re looking for plastic pop or prepackaged rebellion, you won’t find it here. But if you’re hungry for something authentic, something that bleeds, sweats, and believes — welcome.

This is music for the liberty-minded and the heart-weary, for those who still believe America is worth saving and the truth is worth singing.Let’s take it back.

Steven Leake: The Voice of Truth, Freedom, and the American Spirit

I’m Steven Leake, a DIY indie rocker with a voice that’s raw, honest, and unapologetically real. My music is a battle cry for decency, freedom, common sense, and justice in a world gone mad. Rooted in the Carolina clay, where my family’s farm has stood since before the Revolutionary War, I sing for everyday Americans—the hardworking, the overlooked, the dreamers who still believe in the promise of this nation.

With my trademark dirty pink Converse shoes planted firmly in the soil of tradition, I channel the spirit of Jesus, the Constitution, and the timeless principles of liberty, ethics, and enlightenment. My songs are emotionally stripped-down, visceral, and authentic, cutting through the noise with a message of hope, resilience, and defiance. A Russian diplomat once called me the “Quintessential American,” and I wear that badge with pride.

A singer-songwriter, poet, novelist, and thought leader, I’m a tireless champion for the rights and freedoms of everyday Americans. Once appointed to West Point, I was forced to withdraw due to an illness beyond my control, but my commitment to serving my country never wavered. Today, I serve through my art and activism—writing and recording music, hosting podcasts, producing videos and radio shows, and designing t-shirts and hoodies for the Alt-Right, Truth, and Freedom movements. My advocacy for veterans and libertarian principles fuels my mission to inspire and unite.

Explore my music, poetry, novels, and more. Join me in standing for truth, liberty, and the American way.

🧭 Summary

Steven Leake is best described as a DIY folk and folk‑rock singer-songwriter rooted in Southern spirituality and libertarian philosophy. His music is bare-bones acoustic, direct and honest, often serving as a platform for protest, reflection, and cultural preservation.

My newest record, “Truth is Power” is a lyrical statement on liberty, resilience, and American spirit, stripped to its bare soul. Recorded live-to-tape, it showcases my songwriting at its most vulnerable and powerful.

“My music is for the underdog, the wanderer, the liberty-minded soul who still believes in raw truth and a good melody.”
